A recipe import didn't work

Most recipe pages import fine. When a page doesn't list its ingredients in a way UnBizzy can read, UnBizzy fills in what it can and asks you to paste the ingredient list. For a photo, a clear, well-lit shot of the recipe works best.

  • "I couldn't find the ingredients on that page, so I left them out rather than guess." Tap Open the page, copy the ingredient list, and come back. Tap Paste the list, paste it, then tap Add them. This happens a lot with social media posts, where the ingredients are in the caption.
  • "That link isn't one I can open. Try the recipe page's own address." Copy the address from the recipe page itself.
  • "Couldn't open that page — your form's untouched. Check the link, or try again?" The page didn't load. Check your connection and the link. A site you're signed into in Safari or Chrome isn't signed in inside UnBizzy, so a page behind a sign-in won't open.
  • "That one's already saved — here it is." You've imported it before. UnBizzy opens the one you have.
  • "This version of the app can't read recipe links any more. Update it, or add this one by hand." Update UnBizzy from the App Store or Google Play.

If you imported a photo

  • Tap the camera in the Cookbook search bar, or Snap a photo or upload a screenshot on Add Recipe. Then choose Take a photo or Choose from gallery.
  • Handwriting and dim light are hard for UnBizzy to read. Use good light and keep the whole recipe in the frame.
  • A recipe on two pages, or on the back of a card: tap Add a page when UnBizzy asks, and it reads both together. Two pages is the most it reads for one recipe.
  • "I got the ingredients but no method." or "I got the method but no ingredients." means part of it was on another page. Add that page, or type the missing part in.
  • If three photos in a row don't work, photo importing pauses for a while. The message says when it opens back up.

Either way

  • "Reading recipes for you is part of an UnBizzy subscription. You can still type this one in below." See What works without a subscription.
  • "Recipe reading is taking a break for a little while. You can still type this one in below." Try again later.
  • If you've hit the import limit for the day, or the photo limit for your plan, the message says when it opens up again. You can always add a recipe by hand.
  • Check what was read before you save. Imported recipes are read by software and can have mistakes.
